It’s not every year that we get a brand new theme park, but 2014 is bringing exactly that. Sure this park might have done its thing in the past under a different flag—Six Flags to be specific—but that doesn’t lessen the need to hit up Kentucky Kingdom when it reappears on the amusement park map this summer.
After doing its thing in Louisville for a whole bunch of years the park has just been kind of hanging out for the last few; however, after a refresh, refurbishment, and renewal the new Kentucky Kingdom and Hurricane Bay is set to debut on May 24.
There’s a bunch of your favorites from past years and seasons, so if you’ve been dreaming for a trip aboard Thunder Run you’re in luck. They’re promising that this thing is back and better than ever, and that’s got to be the case since they spent $1 million fixing it up to like new condition. Just in case you have forgotten what this coaster has to offer there’s 3,000-feet of track, a 74-foot drop, and best of all it’s a wooden coaster.
Park officials certainly recognize that they just can’t risk success on past memories and experiences of the former parks, so they’re bringing lots of new rides and attractions into town for the 2014 season as well. There are new bumper cars, free-fall rides, and a 5D cinema—we’re not sure about the extra couple of dimensions.
All that stuff is fine and dandy but what we’re most interested in is the park’s new signature coater that will be known as Lightning Run—get it, they have thunder and lightning. Anyway, the new coaster is packing a 100-foot drop at like 80 degrees to start things off, and there’s plenty of twists, turns, dips, and drops to finish things off.
If you’re ready to visit—only 120 days away—tickets will set you back $45 or so for general admission for the day; however, season tickets are only like $15 more. So if you’re thinking about visiting more than once that’s going to be the way to go.
